Our Story

As a fellow G-Wagon fan you have probably noticed the marked increase in G-Wagons, proudly navigating the streets and defying the equally accelerating traffic in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach. It is truly fun to see the extended range of Geländewagen colors and different specifications of G-Wagons that are enjoyed by an equally diverse group of owners.

It might be fair to state that G-Wagon drivers are united by the appeal of tax deductions, the vehicle height and robust heavy build for overall safety. The unique automotive status and timeless design give the wagons their almost ugly appeal that set it apart from other utility vehicles. The plush and more luxurious interiors, large capacity trunk, flexibility and increased comfort over the years probably also feature in the mix. In talking to G-Wagon owners I have noticed that they have frequently owned a series of wagons, maybe tried another brand along the way, but return to remain loyal and dedicated to the unique driving experience.

Personally, I have owned three G-Wagons over the years. Starting my ownership journey with a pre-owned 2015 G550. My peers told me that it would be noisy, uncomfortable, expensive and difficult to climb into with a skirt and heels! Despite their negative comments I rebelled and wanted to experience the Wagon for myself and officially joined the club. My business partner at that time suggested that I celebrate a robust real estate market and buy something flashy and expensive – what better than a red 2018 G63? Late in 2021 I succumbed to the lure of the newer body style and spent weeks agonizing over the pricing premium. But I am always nostalgic about my previous wagons and enjoyed them all! I even named my successive wagons “Billy The Benz” for my beloved Dad in the UK.

Fast forward, I have founded The Wagon Club of SoFlo for multiple reasons. After two years of living in a COVID-conscious environment many of my friends and associates are keen to get out and meet in smaller groups. I have also helped many families relocate to South Florida and found that they are eager to socialize and meet new people who have similar interests and lifestyles. I have belonged to various car groups and really enjoyed aspects of the groups, forming some great friendships and business associations along the way.

I am very grateful to Mike Lucia, the general manager at Mercedes-Benz in Pompano Beach for taking the time to form a group of G-Wagon experts at the dealership. Mike and his team have a wealth of knowledge and experience to support The Wagon Club of SoFlo members. Their contact information is contained in the website and they are ready to assist! The teams at AutoNation and Fort Lauderdale Magazine have been terrific. Please visit the sponsor section for more information on other members that are becoming involved as the club gains momentum. Please remember that the club is newly formed, ideas are welcome and feedback or suggestions for venues are also invited.

I hope that you will consider joining this newly formed group and that I will get an opportunity to meet you personally at the next meeting. By all means contact me at [email protected].

In the meantime, wishing you many miles of safe and pleasurable G-Wagon ownership,
